Jerry still exceeding Dolphins' preferred weight

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin wants guard John Jerry under 340 pounds. Jerry, who has struggled to control his weight his entire life, claimed to have checked in on the number at the beginning of the team's offseason program.

However, Jerry is reportedly back up to 345 at minicamp this week.

"He's not much heavier," Philbin said regarding the apparent weight Jerry has recently put on, according to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel.

"Not much" is just that: not much. But Jerry is trying to hold onto the primary right guard gig, and when former Chicago Bears lineman Lance Louis returns from his ailment -- possibly next month -- that might not be so easy.

Jerry, a former third-round pick out of Mississippi, has started 29 games and played in 41 over the last three years. Prior to last season, Philbin stressed Jerry's need to drop weight and maintain it if he wanted to stick around.
