Dennard gets green light for training camp

BY NICK ST. DENIS

New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard may join his team for training camp -- at least for now.

Dennard was in court in Lincoln, Nebraska Wednesday to find out if he violated his current probation by getting arrested on suspicion of drunken driving earlier this month. As part of a sentence earlier this year that includes 30 days in jail next year, Dennard is currently serving two years' probation for assaulting a police officer in 2012.

According to the Lincoln Journal Star, Dennard was cleared to head to Foxborough for team activities as District Judge Robert Otte determined the conditions of his probation still stand.

There was some speculation immediately following Dennard's July arrest that the Patriots would consider cutting Dennard, as the incident came on the heels of Aaron Hernandez getting arrested for murder and the team's swift action in wiping its hands clean of him.

Dennard will return to court Aug. 12 for the DUI charge and appear for a follow-up hearing Aug. 27, via WEEI.

As a rookie, Dennard tallied 35 tackles, three interceptions and a touchdown in 10 games last season. He's penciled in as a starter opposite Aqib Talib.
