Jets bring in Braylon Edwards for a physical

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Well, it's about time.

The New York Jets had spent the offseason occasionally tinkering with different free agent wide receiver options. Some visits were reported, other signings were made. But one development that always seemed to be hanging in the background was the team's interest in bringing back Braylon Edwards.

According to multiple media reports and a tweet by tight end Kellen Winslow, Edwards is in the building.

Edwards is reportedly at the Jets' facility taking a physical Wednesday. The team reports to training camp in Cortland, NY Thursday.

The Jets have less to lose and more to gain by signing Edwards. His price is of the league-minimum variety and he's had success catching passes from quarterback Mark Sanchez in the past. He's always expressed pleasure in being a Jet, and with Santonio Holmes on the PUP list with no timetable on a return to the field, New York needs all the help it can get.

Edwards was traded to the Jets early in the 2009 season but was not re-signed with the team after the 2010 postseason despite a 2010 campaign that saw Edwards and Sanchez connect on 62 passes, eight touchdowns and more than 40 first downs.
