Joe McKnight saw writing on wall last week

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Now-former New York Jets running back and return specialist Joe McKnight sensed it was coming.

"I thought I was going to play Saturday and then I ended up not playing," McKnight told the NY Post. "I figured something was going on."

McKnight was right. The fourth-year player was among the team's roster purge Monday, getting cut by the team that drafted him out of USC in 2010.

He burst on the scene -- well, in some respects -- with his shaky rookie minicamp that saw him throw up before admitting he wasn't in proper shape. He battled fumble issues that preseason and was never able to materialize into the electric skill-position player New York hoped it was getting.

McKnight did make some waves in the kick return department, leading the league in that category in 2011 and tallying a return for a touchdown in each of the last two years. He totaled 502 yards on 112 carries and 177 yards on 17 receptions in three years with Gang Green but never scored an offensive touchdown.

"I can’t blame nobody but myself," he said. "The Jets didn’t do anything. It was all on me. Everything they’ve done for me was real good. I have no bad feelings toward them.”
