Pats have less than week to decide on Gronk

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Rob Gronkowski is reportedly back on the field participating in individual drills Monday. The New England Patriots have until the end of the week to decide if he'll be able to do any more than that.

Gronkowski is currently on the PUP list and isn't allowed to return to team drills until he's activated. If New England doesn't take him off the list by Saturday, he won't be able to return to the active roster for at least the first six weeks of the regular season.

The fourth-year tight end is coming off a back procedure that followed a handful of surgeries on a forearm that he broke twice last season.

Adding Gronk to the 53-man roster prematurely is a risk given the fact that he could be taking up a much-needed spot without actually seeing the field early on. Then again, having arguably the best tight end in the NFL at their disposal might be a risk the Patriots are willing to take.

Then again, it's always a risk with Gronk.
