Starks may default back to Dolphins' starter

BY SEAN DONOVAN

Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Randy Starks may find himself back in the starting lineup this Sunday when his team plays the Atlanta Falcons, but not necessarily because he's off his 'punishment.'

He'll be there because fellow defensive lineman Paul Soliai is unlikely to play in Week 3 due to a knee injury suffered in the fourth quarter of last week's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Soliai is sitting out practice this week and, according to The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero, the injury may cause the seven-year veteran to miss more than just this upcoming game.

Starks would be charged with taking over as the 1-technique defensive tackle in Soliai's absence, with Jared Odrick remaining the starting 3-technique in Miami's 4-3 defensive front. So far, Starks has only been on the field for 53.2-percent of the Dolphins defensive snap, but that number figures to go up with the added workload.

The Dolphins added a pair of defensive tackles to their practice squad this week, perhaps as insurance if Soliai is sidelined for an extended period of time. Former St. Louis Rams undrafted free agent Al Lapuaho and former Dolphin Isaako Aaitui, who also spent a brief amount of time with the New York Jets, were the players signed by Miami.
