Marrone: There's 'a lot we can do' if Spiller is out

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Running back C.J. Spiller's availability Sunday when the Buffalo Bills travel to the New Orleans Saints is looking more and more bleak as the week comes to an end.

Bills coach Doug Marrone recognizes Spiller's immeasurable role in the offense, but he insists Buffalo can be OK without him.

"There are a lot of things we can do," Marrone told WGR550 Friday morning, via BuffaloBills.com. "We have faith in the players that we have there.

“Obviously it does hurt with C.J. not being out there. He is truly a weapon. It is what it is. When he’s out there you want to make sure that he’s healthy. You don’t want to put him at risk.”

Spiller is nursing an ankle injury and has yet to practice this week. If he's absent Sunday, expect "a lot of things" to simply mean a heavy dose of Fred Jackson, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, Jackson has been nicked up a bit this season, as well.

Tashard Choice would get a little spell time here and there, and Marrone suggested the Bills may bring up Ronnie Wingo from the practice squad to make the trip to the Super Dome.

We'll get Spiller's official status later today.
