Dolphins ink seven prospects, including Spadola

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Stop the presses -- the Miami Dolphins are on a signing spree.

With the start of free agency still a month away, teams are beefing up their arsenal of prospective practice squaders, and Miami made some moves in that regard Friday.

The Dolphins announced the signing of receiver Ryan Spadola, defensive tackle Isaako Aaitui, running back Cameron Marshall, tight end Kyle Miller, H-back Emmanuel Ogbuehi, offensive tackle Michael Ola and offensive tackle Jason Weaver.

According to The Sun Sentinel, all but Ola, who spent the last two seasons in the Canadian Football League, finished 2013 on the Dolphins' practice squad.

Spadola is an intriguing prospect, as he had a good preseason last year with the New York Jets but was cut in early October. At the time, the Jets needed an extra body at another position in preperation for their game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Gang Green wanted to bring him back, but he opted instead to sign with Miami. He was released and signed again by the Dolphins later in the year, and now is back again. Cracking the gameday roster will be an uphill battle, as Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson and Rishard Matthews are all slated to return.

Aaitui may also have a sliver of hope regarding the 53-man roster with both Randy Starks and Paul Soliai set for free agency, though the Dolphins will certainly bring in at least one veteran interior lineman and/or a body via the draft to compete for a job in place of Starks, Soliai or both.

And as for the offensive linemen, who knows what Miami's front will look like in six months.
