Patriots bring along Lombardi to scout at Combine

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The New England Patriots have yet to make anything official regarding their rumored partnership with Michael Lombardi, but we now have something tangible to work off of.

According to Field Yates of ESPN Boston, Lombardi is traveling with Patriots coach Bill Belichick, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and VP of player personnel Nick Caserio to the NFL Scouting Combine Wednesday.

Last week, reports surfaced that the former Cleveland Browns general manager would be joining the Patriots' staff in some capacity.

Lombardi was a consultant with the Patriots from 2010-12 and worked with Belichick two decades ago when Belichick coached the Browns. His second stint with the Browns lasted just a year, as he was fired last Tuesday.

Belichick is the de facto general manager and Caserio his top personnel guy, so if the team does in fact put out something official regarding Lombardi, it's likely he will be introduced as a consultant.
