Belichick: With Lombardi, Patriots' staff now set

The New England Patriots officially announced the addition of Michael Lombardi Thursday, naming the former Cleveland Browns general manager as an assistant to the coaching staff.

"Mike's got a lot of experience," Patriots coach Bill Belichick told the media Thursday, via Patriots.com. "He's done a lot of things in his career in the NFL."

Lombardi had been rumored last week to have joined the Patriots just days after getting fired from his post in Cleveland, a position he held for a year and a handful of days.

The New England Patriots have yet to make anything official regarding their rumored partnership with Michael Lombardi, but we now have something tangible to work off of.

According to Field Yates of ESPN Boston, Lombardi is traveling with Patriots coach Bill Belichick, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and VP of player personnel Nick Caserio to the NFL Scouting Combine Wednesday.

Last week, reports surfaced that the former Cleveland Browns general manager would be joining the Patriots' staff in some capacity.

Bill Belichick and Michael Lombardi have combined forces twice before to orchestrate some draft magic at the NFL level.

Better make that three.

Following reports Wednesday afternoon that Lombardi may be headed for another reunion with New England's head coach and de facto general manager, a league source confirmed the move Thursday as "essentially a done deal," according to Shalise Manza Young of The Boston Globe.
