RPT: Jets still undecided on Mark Sanchez

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Mark Sanchez's departure from the New York Jets this offseason has been widely considered inevitable for quite some time now.

Not so fast.

The Jets brass reportedly met with Sanchez's representatives last weekend at the NFL Scouting Combine and are still mulling the team's options with its sixth-year signal-caller.

According to Kristian Dyer of Metro NY, the Jets have yet to make a decision on Sanchez, as they're waiting to see just how far Sanchez has come since sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury last August.

Sanchez competed with then-rookie Geno Smith last offseason for the starting gig and seemed to be in the driver's seat before busting his shoulder. Smith went on to an up-and-down season but showed enough to be given the lead role heading into 2014 with a medium-length leash.

Sanchez would/will save the Jets upwards of $8 million in cap space via either a release or trade in the coming weeks. Sanchez is owed a roster bonus in March, so Gang Green will make a move on him soon.

A team source, however, told Dyer that the Jets are considering restructuring Sanchez's contract so they can bring him back to again compete with Smith in camp.
