Idzik says Jets 'recognize we have a need at corner'

BY NICK ST. DENIS

This time last year, the New York Jets had Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie manning their cornerback depth chart.

This time this year, it's Dee Milliner and a handful No. 2/nickel back prospects. At the very least, the team's general manager sees that as somewhat of a concern, as coach Rex Ryan didn't have much of an urgent tone earlier this month when discussing the topic.

"We recognize we have a need at corner," John Idzik said Wednesday, via NJ.com. "But there's plenty of road ahead of us before we get to camp."

That may be true, but who's left on that road? Revis signed with the New England Patriots, Cromartie signed with the Arizona Cardinals, and the Jets missed on their top free agent targets at the position in Alterraun Verner, Dominique Rogers-Cromartie and Vontae Davis.

"To complete a deal it has to feel right for us and it has to feel right for the player," Idzik said. "... You don't want to do something that doesn't fit a year or two from now."

There's not much left but the draft, where the Jets should be focused on receiver, tight end and outside linebacker. Now, throw corner into that mix. Again.
