Revis doesn't think Belichick is a jerk anymore

BY NICK ST. DENIS

During an appearance on SportsCenter in 2012, then-New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis had some choice words for New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

"Jerk," Revis answered at the time when asked to associate one word with Belichick's name.

But now that Revis is on Belichick's roster, and getting paid $12 million by the Patriots in the meantime, Revis is singing a little different tune these days.

"Me and Bill, we had a conversation about it and it's in the past," Revis said Monday, via Patriots.com. "We're both moving forward and we're excited about working together and trying to win games. I think that's the biggest goal here, is to win games."

A year removed from his departure from the Jets, the veteran cornerback's joining forces with the rival Patriots hasn't sat well with Gang Green faithful. One would imagine it was hard for Jets coach Rex Ryan to stomach, too, as Ryan has been one of Revis' most dedicated cheerleaders the past half dozen years.

Revis insists his signing with the Patriots, however, had nothing to with the Jets, who traded him last offseason after multiple contract impasses since 2010.

"That was never the factor," Revis said of the revenge angle. "My thing is all about winning. I want to win. What better organization – the New England Patriots – to be a part of that?

"If you look at their track record, New England has won year-in and year-out or been to the playoffs, had playoff berths. Right now in my career, I think this is great – to team up with Tom Brady and Coach [Bill] Belichick and the New England Patriots team and help them win games. That’s what I’m here for. I’m here to win games and play hard-nosed football."
