Chung's return to Pats 'a very, very, very easy decision'

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Patrick Chung will have to earn his stay, but for now, the veteran safety is just happy to be "home."

Chung, who was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2009 but expired to free agency last offseason, is back with his old team after a year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles that didn't go so well.

The Patriots announced they signed the 26-year-old defensive back Thursday.

"I had no clue. I got released," Chung said of his experience on the free market over the past month, via Patriots.com. "I just started training so I was prepared for an opportunity when an opportunity presented itself. I got the call and I was excited. I was happy. I was relieved.

"It was a very, very, very easy decision."

Chung was plagued with the injury bug throughout his previous four-year tenure with the Patriots, missing 14 games in the last three seasons. With Devin McCourty and Duron Harmon virtual locks at safety, Chung will be battling with Tavon Wilson & Co. for a spot on the depth chart.
