Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey had running back Knowshon Moreno by his side for two months while the two rehabbed their respective ailments.
But Moreno was cleared to take the practice field two weeks ago, leaving Pouncey to fend for himself in the training room.
The split-up was bittersweet for Pouncey, who is working hard to avoid the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list at the beginning of the regular season -- a strong possibility given the timeline of his hip recovery.
“I miss Knowshon," Pouncey said this week, via MiamiDolphins. "I’m glad he’s back on the football field. Our football team needs him. He’s a really good football player.
"I hate to say it that I ain’t got a partner to work out with, but it’s kind of better for the team that he’s out on the football field.”
Pouncey looks to re-join his teammates on the field no later than the end of September, but if the Dolphins don't think he'll be full-go by the beginning of October, he'll likely find himself on the PUP list, which would keep him out of team participation the first six weeks of the season.
Miami could certainly use him, as the offensive front is struggling this preseason in his absence.
"Standing on the side watching the rest of your teammates work is one of the worst feelings ever," Pouncey said. "I can’t wait to get back. Obviously I can’t wait until I go back up to see the doctor and get cleared to go play again."
