Pouncey plans to be back for OTAs after hip surgery

Another offseason, another hip surgery for Miami Dolphins three-time Pro Bowler Mike Pouncey.

Following a season that closed with the 26-year-old on the sidelines with a foot injury, it was his hip that had him under the knife right after the season ended, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.

His rehabilitation is reportedly expected to take three months.

Per Salguero:
"The interesting thing is that this is Pouncey's second hip surgery in two years. He missed the first four games of the season in 2014 while rehabilitating from the surgery. Pouncey, however, didn't seem too worried his hip issues are chronic."

Back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons 'very big' for Miller

Only two Miami Dolphins have ever had back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

Lamar Miller has his eye on becoming No. 3.

With only 231 more yards needed to reach his mark, the fourth-year back is well aware of how close he is, information he's passed along to the guys helping him try to join an elite list.

"It's very big for me," Miller said via MiamiDolphins.com. "(Mike) Pouncey came up to me and asked me how many yards I needed and I told him. It's always good to know that your teammates care about you as well.

"Just got to keep coming out every day in practice, keep working hard and hopefully we finish the last three strong."

Pouncey had no doubt Miami would be in for long haul

Mike Pouncey's contract extension turned from forgone conclusion to reality Monday, an announcement that officially made the 25-year-old the highest paid center in the league.

The finalization of the five-year, $45 million deal also brought some tears to the eyes of the two-time Pro Bowler, who was overcome with emotion as he spoke to reporters about the deal and his future with the team.

"I’ve been with these guys my whole career and it feels like a family to me," Pouncey said via the team's website Monday. "I’d love to say it’s a burden off my shoulders, but I always knew I’d be here and it wouldn’t be any other place.

"They could have easily gave up on me a long time ago. They stuck with me, it’s something I will never forget ... There won’t be a doubt that they made the right decision to keep me here."

Per Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the deal came with $22 million in guaranteed money for Pouncey, and it'll keep the former Florida product signed through 2020.

Dolphins, Pouncey agree on multi-year extension

Last year, the Pittsburgh Steelers made Maurkice Pouncey the league's highest paid center. This year, it's Mike's turn to take on the family bragging rights.

The 25-year-old offensive lineman, coming off his second consecutive Pro Bowl, has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the Miami Dolphins, according to the Palm Beach Post. The deal is reportedly worth more than brother Maurkice's deal, which was for $44 million over five years.

Pouncey moved from center to guard in 2014, and though he's stronger at center, he still managed to earn himself a trip to Glendale, Ariz. The former Gator is slated to move back to center this season.

Pouncey touts teammates, work ethic for Pro Bowl nod

It's tough enough to make the Pro Bowl at one position. But two different positions in consecutive years? That's, well ... that's Mike Pouncey.

Miami's 25-year-old offensive lineman made the trip last season as a center, and he'll be heading to Glendale on Jan. 25 to play guard for his work this season. It's a feat that hadn't been achieved by any Dolphins offensive player in history until now, and it's something Pouncey attributes the hard work he put in during the offseason, as well as the work of his line mates.

"It just goes to show for my work ethic, all the work I put in in the off season," Pouncey said via the Phinsiders show. "But any of that wouldn't have been possible without the other four guys on the offensive line. Being an offensive lineman, it's a team sport; the ultimate team sport in our field of work.

"Without those guys going out there every play -- we play 60, 70 snaps together. Without those guys, it wouldn't even be possible."

Pouncey thinks James is up to challenge at LT

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

Starting a rookie at left tackle is a stressful call for any coach to make, even with a No. 1 pick. Starting one on a short week against the league's No. 1 sack squad? That's just plain terrifying.

Nobody seems to shaking in their cleats down in Miami though, as the loss of Pro Bowler Branden Albert for the season has opened the door for youngster Ja'Wuan James to slide over and fill his shoes.

James has held his own on the right side on the line through nine games this season, and his teammates seem confident in his abilities on the blind side.

Dolphins' Pouncey 'just getting back in the groove'

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey is finally back on the practice field. Well, maybe "finally" isn't the best choice of words, since it's earlier than originally expected.

Pouncey took the field Tuesday for the first time since his June hip surgery, and by his account, things are moving along.

“Just getting back in the groove, it felt good to be back here with my football team,” Pouncey said, via MiamiDolphins.com. “I felt normal. It feels normal. It just feels good to get back in the stance without it hurting again.

Pouncey misses Moreno in Dolphins' training room

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey had running back Knowshon Moreno by his side for two months while the two rehabbed their respective ailments.

But Moreno was cleared to take the practice field two weeks ago, leaving Pouncey to fend for himself in the training room.

The split-up was bittersweet for Pouncey, who is working hard to avoid the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list at the beginning of the regular season -- a strong possibility given the timeline of his hip recovery.

Struggling centers cue Dolphins to bring back Satele

BY SEAN DONOVAN

Reports out of the Miami Dolphins' training camp indicated that the platoon of backup centers filling in for injured Mike Pouncey were struggling to adequately fill the role.

So the Dolphins went to the nearly dried-up free agent well to address the void.

The team announced Saturday has it signed veteran offensive lineman Samson Satele. Satele, who was drafted by the Dolphins in 2007, most recently played for the Indianapolis Colts after a stint with the Oakland Raiders.

Center role ‘will take some time’ for Shelley Smith

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Shelly Smith hasn’t played center since his days at Colorado State.

Come Friday morning, however, it was he who was snapping for a fully revamped Miami line unit that’s looking to rebound from the recent loss of its most valued player, Mike Pouncey.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, Smith, who signed a two-year, $5.5 million contract with the Fins back in March, didn’t learn of the decision until he reported to training camp.

Pouncey on PUP, likely to miss first half of season

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

For a team that would like nothing more than to get back to a fully functioning offensive line, it looks like the Miami Dolphins may have to wait half the season to get it.

One month ago, the leader of the team's line, center Mike Pouncey, underwent hip surgery to repair a torn labrum. Wednesday, a source told The Miami Herald that rehab could take up to four months, and Thursday, Pouncey was reportedly put on the PUP list to start training camp.

If Pouncey remains on PUP going into the regular season, he'll be required to miss the first six games of the season. Supposedly, that's the likely scenario.

Man accuses Pouncey twins of assault at party

BY SEAN DONOVAN

Mike and Maurkice Pouncey held their annual birthday bash on Friday and, as is becoming an annual rite itself, found themselves in the headlines shortly afterwards.

The twin brothers and star NFL centers, of the Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers, respectively, have been implicated in an assault that occurred at a night club in Miami Beach early Saturday morning, according to the Broward/Palm Beach New Times.

The Miami Beach Police acknowledged an incident took place, but "have not confirmed it's the Pouncey brothers that are the subjects" and that they "are going to have detectives contacting the victims to investigate further."

Dolphins bolster banged-up O-line with Colledge

BY NICK ST. DENIS

With surgery sidelining star center Mike Pouncey for the rest of the summer and possibly the first quarter of the regular season, the Miami Dolphins desperately needed to bolster their offensive line.

Monday, they made an according move.

Upon hosting a handful of free agent interior frontmen, the team signed veteran Daryn Colledge, who most recently spent three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals after a five-year stint with the Green Bay Packers.

Pouncey a hit to Dolphins, Moreno insult to injury

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The positive is, it's still only June. The negative is, that still won't be enough time.

Center Mike Pouncey, arguably the Miami Dolphins' best offensive player and certainly the leader on the offensive line, underwent hip surgery Monday and will miss at least three months of action, via multiple media reports.

Pouncey sustained a torn labrum during OTAs.

Hickey on offensive line: 'It certainly looks different'

BY SCOTT BAINES

As the only returning starter on the Miami Dophins' offensive line from a year ago, center Mike Pouncey has a lot of new names to learn.

Two of the Dolphins' top three selections in the 2014 draft were used on offensive linemen--first-rounder Ja’Wuan James and third-rounder Billy Turner--as the team rounded out its rebuilt offensive front. James and Turner are joined by free agent signings Branden Albert, Shelley Smith and Jason Fox.

It's early, but so far, new general manager Dennis Hickey likes what he sees from the group.

Dolphins' Pouncey in Boston, but not to scout Patriots

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

The reach of Aaron Hernandez's alleged ties to gun trafficking and the murder Odin Lloyd has crept into the locker room of the Miami Dolphins. Or at least, it's pulled someone out of it.

After being subpoenaed following the team's Week 8 loss on the road against the New England Patriots, Dolphins center Mike Pouncey reportedly testified to the grand jury in Hernandez's case Wednesday, the reason for his absence from practice.

The Miami Herald cited a league source Thursday as confirmation for Pouncey's whereabouts, though the trip doesn't look like it'll get in the way of the 24-year-old starting Sunday's rematch against the Pats.

Pouncey gearing up for blitzing Browns

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The Miami Dolphins expect a lot of blitzing from the Cleveland Browns Sunday, which has raised center Mike Pouncey's antennas.

Pouncey faces the tall task of dissecting Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton's attacking front and getting the rest of his unit on the same page before snapping the ball to Ryan Tannehill. Then he has to block.

So the now veteran offensive lineman is using all his resources this week and recently reached out to his twin brother, Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey, for a scouting report on the Browns' personnel.

Pounceys stir pot with 'Free Hernandez' hats

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Hats are more newsworthy when they relate to the AFC East.

To the entertainment of Miami Dolphins fans, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was recently spotted sporting a Dolphins cap. But now, the hat being worn by one of their own isn't so amusing.

In this photo (via Deadspin), Dolphins center Mike Pouncey and his brother, Steelers offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey, are shown at a club in high spirits boasting a pair of caps that read "Free Hernandez."

Pouncey on Martin: 'Left tackle is his position'

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Prior to the 2013 offseason, the Miami Dolphins were expected to acquire a left tackle in free agency or early in the draft if they were to lose Jake Long. That idea is long gone.

Miami seemingly will leave second-year tackle Jonathan Martin, who filled in for the injured Long down the stretch last season after starting at right tackle, with the responsibility of protecting second-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill's blindside.

At least one Dolphin -- the team's best offensive lineman -- is confident Martin will be OK.

AFC East trio lands on NFL.com's All-Under-25 Team

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

Tuesday, NFL.com’s Elliot Harrison compiled the website's All-Under-25 (years old) Team, and a few AFC East names made the list.

New England’s Rob Gronkowski and Miami’s Mike Pouncey and Reshad Jones were honored at their respective positions, and for good reason.
