31-0 never sounded better to Buffalo Bills fans.
After months of preparations, celebrity speculations and now the final unanimous vote from NFL owners, the Buffalo Bills franchise is officially the property of the Pegula family.
Well, almost.
"This is a significant step in us owning the team," Terry Pegula said Wednesday via the AP. "There's a small matter of having to pay some money and we'll get that done."
Once the T's are crossed and the I's are dotted on the $1.4 billion sale, the Pegulas will own both major sports franchises in Buffalo, a reality that even Terry himself has trouble wrapping his head around.
"If you asked me 10 years ago if I would own the Sabres and the Bills, I would have called you a liar," he said. "I just got a hell of a deal. I own the team."
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was equally excited to welcome the newest owners into the league.
"I think this was a great outcome for Western New York, Bills fans and the NFL," he said via Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550. "As an ownership, I think we’re very excited to have them be a part of the league."
Pegula told the Buffalo News that he'd be back in Buffalo for the Sabres home opener tomorrow, and that he'd officially address the media as owner of the team on Friday.
