Linebacker Mayo restructures deal with New England

It's been a tale of two halves for linebacker Jerod Mayo.

After missing only five games his first five years in the league, the New England Patriots center has suffered consecutive season-ending injuries, playing in only 12 games since 2013. Now, he'll essentially have one more year to prove he can stay healthy, as the veteran restructured his contract Wednesday.

The deal, which will reportedly pay Mayo $4.5 million guaranteed for 2015 according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, includes another $1.5 million in incentives but turns the final two years of his contract into option years.

Mayo's cap hit was set to be upwards of $10 million before the deal, and the move will give the team some breathing room come draft time. The team currently only has around $6 million in cap space, according to overthecap.com.
