Phillips has Dolphins' defensive coaches excited

Entering Day 2 of the 2015 NFL Draft, defensive tackle wasn't exactly a position of great need for the Miami Dolphins, aside from depth purposes.

But when it was Miami's turn to pick in the second round after trading back a few spots, the team opted for whom it felt was the best player available. So they pulled the trigger on Oklahoma middle man Jordan Phillips.

“(He’s) a big, talented defensive tackle with a lot of ability,” general manager Dennis Hickey said, via MiamiDolphins.com. “We brought him in on a visit and really liked what he brought to the table. We feel like he can really learn from our defensive line, the veteran group that it is. He truly was the best player available on our board.

"We almost had an earthquake up there, the defensive coaches just trying to break down the walls they were so excited. (He’s) a talented player, really excited to get him with our coaches and work with him and really like what he brings from a size, strength, ability to hold the point, with also having athleticism and ability to rush the passer.”
