Jets holding an Australian punter battle


The New York Jets have battle brewing down under on the punting depth chart.

Last month, Gang Green drafted Australian Lachlan Edwards in the seventh round before signing fellow Aussie Tom Hackett. The two are now battling for the departed Ryan Quigley's old job.
Edwards looks the part — 6-foot-4 and 209 pounds, all long limbs, with a booming leg. But Hackett, at 5-foot-10 and 198 pounds, doesn't lack for credentials or confidence. The past two seasons, he won the Ray Guy Award, as college football's top punter. He said he wants to "change the way the NFL punts."

Both guys, like many Australians, have a rather carefree demeanor, upon first glance. Hackett, in particular, delights with his deadpan sarcasm.
