Bushrod on transitioning to guard: 'I'm up for it'

Earlier today, we discussed the possibility of newly acquired offensive lineman Jermon Bushrod moving to guard for the Miami Dolphins — a position he's never played.

Bushrod addressed that possibility and his thoughts about the move Friday during a conference call with reporters, via MiamiDolphins.com.

"You just have to get your timing down and things like that," Bushrod said. "The fight happens a little sooner at guard. I don’t see it being too tough of an obstacle. It’s going to be hard, but playing in the NFL is hard. It’s not an easy task.

"I’m up for it."

The 31-year-old confirmed he's never played guard at any level in a game, though he has taken snaps there in practice.

The Miami Dolphins officially announced the signing of veteran tackle Jermon Bushrod Friday, who's played 108 games in the league and is a two-time Pro Bowler.

According to Adam Abramson of the Palm Beach Post, Miami is thinking about giving Bushrod a shot at switching — a testament to how badly Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner were last season.

Abramson also reported that the team isn't expected to make any other big splashes on that front for at least another month:
"The Dolphins passed on the top two free agent guards, Alex Boone and Kelechi Osemele. There are still some free agents available, including Geoff Schwartz and Evan Mathis, but the Dolphins plan to wait until the draft to decide whether they bring in another veteran guard."
