Half a season of Ed Reed wasn't enough for New York Jets safety Josh Bush.
The
24-year-old Bush, who is entering his third season in the NFL, will be
headed to Reed's headquarters in Atlanta in the coming weeks to spend
some time with the future Hall-of-Famer. Bush learned a lot from Reed in
2013, but he's not done asking questions.
"He’s always willing to share knowledge," Bush said of Reed, via NewYorkJets.com. "He told me once you get to a certain point, that’s what it’s all about.

Rex goes into detail about workings at safety

Rex Ryan mixes defensive players like Walter White mixes chemicals.
Ryan is working with more than half a dozen new starters on defense yet is still leading a unit ranked second in the league in yards-per-game. The Jets have been exceptional up front, but the secondary has been in flux.
While Gang Green has been dealing with injuries at cornerback, Ryan has taken a more by-committee approach at safety by design.
"We feel good about our safety group. We’ll always do what we think is best, what the matchups are or whatever," Ryan told the media Thursday, via NewYorkJets.com. ". . . I think you teach the system and you kind of plug guys in. 'This week you’re going to be in base, you’re going to be in sub' or vice versa."

How Jets' safety competition is shaping up

Dawan Landry was an instant starter the second the New York Jets signed the veteran safety and brother of former Jet LaRon Landry.
The other safety job, however, was expected to be between Josh Bush, Antonio Allen and Jaiquawn Jarrett. That competition is now down to two.
Jets coach Rex Ryan told reporters Monday that Bush is slotted as Landry's backup, leaving Allen and Jarrett to fight over the open gig. Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News tweeted that it "sounds like" Allen is leading the race.

Allen welcomes 'healthy competition' with Bush

Veteran safety Dawan Landry will fill the void in the New York Jets' defensive backfield left by his brother, LaRon. But the other starting centerfield job is up for grabs.
2012 draft picks Antonio Allen and Josh Bush are sharing reps at safety during offseason activities as defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman and head coach Rex Ryan decide who will set up shop as the starter next to Landry.

Jets ink second rookie in three days, safety Bush

The Jets had their rookies on the field this weekend, and Gang Green is doing a pretty good job making sure they stay there.
Three days after signing second-round pick receiver Stephen Hill, the Jets inked sixth-round pick safety Josh Bush to a four-year deal Sunday, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
Bush was taken by the Jets because of his cover skills, as the converted cornerback out of Wake Forest looks to be an asset in New York's pass defense.
The Jets' current projected starters at safety are former Redskin LaRon Landry and career Jet Eric Smith.

Jets go safety, ground-and-pound in 3rd day of draft

The Jets waited around for a while Saturday, with no fourth- or fifth-round picks. But they had three picks in the sixth round, the second two in consecutive fashion, and two more in the seventh.
New York took Wake Forest safety Josh Bush at No. 187. Bush is an under-the-radar prospect, as he wasn't invited to the NFL Combine and didn't appear in any draft magazines, according to ESPN New York. However, he could very well fit right into the Jets' defense.
The Jets' experience at safety ends after former Redskin LaRon Landry and career Jet Eric Smith. Bush played cornerback for the first part of his college career, so his coverage skills are pretty good for a safety. That should help him in finding a role in a league with pass-happy offenses.
After taking Bush, Gang Green used consecutive picks (202 and 203) on a pair of Baylor players -- running back Terrance Ganaway and guard Robert Griffin.
