Bush headed to Reed's this month for mentoring

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Half a season of Ed Reed wasn't enough for New York Jets safety Josh Bush.

The 24-year-old Bush, who is entering his third season in the NFL, will be headed to Reed's headquarters in Atlanta in the coming weeks to spend some time with the future Hall-of-Famer. Bush learned a lot from Reed in 2013, but he's not done asking questions.

"He’s always willing to share knowledge," Bush said of Reed, via NewYorkJets.com. "He told me once you get to a certain point, that’s what it’s all about.

"Why would you keep knowledge away from a younger guy? That keeps the world turning, so he definitely wants to give knowledge."

Though Reed didn't come into his own until the latter part of the 2013 season, Jets players and coaches insist his presence in the locker room was invaluable. And while he appeared a couple steps slower than in years past, his ball-hawking acumen made a brief appearance late, as he snagged three interceptions in the last four games.

"The common man knows he wasn’t 100 percent coming off hip surgery, but he was more of a coach than anything," Bush said. "Just to have him around us was a special time."

Reed's guidance should certainly come in handy for Bush, as the young centerfielder needs a good offseason and training camp to prove to his coaches he's more than just a serviceable backup.
