Misi likely out, Wheeler hoping to start against Bills

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

Looks like the Miami Dolphins will be without another starting linebacker this weekend, as current reports have middle linebacker Koa Misi a non-starter for the team's road game in Buffalo.

The news on Misi comes just three days after the team designated Dannell Ellerbe to IR with a hip injury. Misi, dealing with an ankle injury, could see action as early as Week 3, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, though we won't rule him out 100 percent until the final injury report.

Salguero reported early Thursday that both Misi and fellow linebacker Philip Wheeler would be out for Sunday's divisional matchup, though that report was updated later in the day and indicated that Wheeler intends to play after all. The 29-year-old has been battling a thumb injury since before the team's first regular season game.

Misi looks forward to watching Delmas 'lay the hats'

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

After posting numbers comparable to his impressive rookie season, 27-year-old safety Louis Delmas joined a Miami secondary in need of a bit of a boost.

According to linebacker and teammate Koa Misi, his contribution has already been quite apparent.

"Lewis, Lewis, he's a high energy guy," Misi told The Finsiders recently. "I think that'll definitely bring something to our team this year. I told him to just be who he is and he'll help us just in that way.

There were conflicting reports last month regarding Miami Dolphins linebacker Koa Misi's willingness to move to his new insider 'backer spot.

According to Misi, it was all a bunch of noise with not much substance.

"I’ve always told the coaches I’m open to trying new things and new positions,” he said this week, via Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald.

Misi's move inside a step in Dolphins' 4-3 direction

BY SEAN DONOVAN

With the Dolphins' transition to more of a 4-3 defense this season, Miami will do its best to see a linebacker corps that was very good in the 3-4 translate accordingly.

The coaching staff appears to be willing to re-assess the role of at least one of those linebackers.

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun Sentinel is reporting that the Dolphins are going to work out outside Koa Misi at middle linebacker in an effort to adapt to the new scheme, where the 4-3 requires a more athletic, rangy player in the middle. Misi fits this profile more than existing middle linebackers Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett.

So far, Misi has been a dissapointment as the pass rusher he was drafted to be. Injuries and unproductive play have mired the first two years of the 2010 second round pick out of Utah.

"It's unfortunate that he got hurt at the end of the season because I saw some growth in him there late," said Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland earlier this year, according to Kelly. "We just got to see where he continues to grow. But he's got to get better."
