O'Brien: No. 3 WR rotation is 'beauty of what Pats do'

With Chad Ochocinco sitting out last Sunday due to a hamstring injury, second-year wideout Taylor Price was expected to see some time as the New England Patriots' third wide receiver.

Instead, Price didn't see a snap, and Julian Edelman and recently-signed Tiquan Underwood instead shared the No. 3 role.

During his regular conference call with the New England media Tuesday, Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien addressed the issue (sort of), saying that New England prefers to have a different players in at the No. 3 receiver position depending on the situation.

"It's a week-to-week deal and this week it could be somebody different," O'Brien said. "It could be Taylor, it could be Ocho [Chad Ochocinco], it could be Tiquan [Underwood], it could be somebody you've never heard of. That's kind of the beauty of what we do. At some point in time, hopefully every one of those guys will contribute to what we're trying to get done."

As far as Price specifically, O'Brien wouldn't get too specific.

"All those guys at that position, it's how you practice, it's how you study, the opponent, the game plan and being able to go out there on the practice field and do it consistently every day," O'Brien said. "I think all those guys try to do that and try to be consistent and that's why it's been a pretty good position for us this year. Taylor is trying to fit into that position and he's working at it and hopefully he'll get there."
