Brady, Gronk among top 10 in 2015-16 player sales

The New England Patriots may not always open their wallets, but their fans certainly do.

The NFLPA released the top 50 player sales list for the 2015-16 season Monday, which is based on total sales of officially licensed merchandise. Three Pats players landed in the top 25, with Tom Brady snagging the top spot.

Rob Gronkowski was No. 8, while wideout Julian Edelman came in at No. 23.

Ryan Tannehill (No. 34) was the first non-Patriot from the division to make an appearance in the top 50, while a pair of Bills (Sammy Watkins, No. 47, and LeSean McCoy, No. 49) snuck in toward the bottom of the list.

Only one Jet — Darrelle Revis — made the cut, coming in at No. 45.

Julian Edelman churns out first downs for Patriots

Quarterback Tom Brady got his security blanket back Saturday.

After a two-month absence, New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman returned in the AFC divisional round bout against the Kansas City Chiefs. He proved to be clutch in the 27-20 victory, even with a couple knock-the-rust-off drops early on.

Via CSNNE:
Edelman didn't catch a touchdown pass in this game, but led the team with 10 receptions for 100 yards, and tied a career playoff-high with 10 receptions.

Seven of those ten receptions went for first downs (plus another run that went for a first down), two of which came on third down.

Edelman will go 'full throttle' against Chiefs

You'd think the New England Patriots would ease Julian Edelman back into action this week, given the wide receiver hasn't taken the field in two months.

Think again.

If he's a go in the divisional round bout with the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Edelman expects to be full go.

“I’m going to go full throttle regardless,” Edelman said, via WEEI. “If it goes, it goes. ... It’s not dipping the toe here, it’s just diving in."

He's been practicing with the team for weeks, and quarterback Tom Brady is undoubtedly raring to go with his top pass-catcher coming back for a showdown at Gillette Stadium.

Edelman-Lewis a key change from last Pats-Bills bout

There will be one major difference in personnel Monday night when the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills take the field as opposed to the teams' last meeting.

As ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss points out:
When the Patriots defeated the Bills, 40-32, in Week 2, running back Dion Lewis (138) and receiver Julian Edelman (109) accounted for 247 of New England's 507 total yards (48.7 percent) and scored three touchdowns. Lewis is now on IR with a torn ACL, while Edelman broke his foot last week.
That said... Tom Brady is still Tom Brady. And he'll be in the friendly confines of Foxborough.

Check out Reiss' nine other "things to know" about the AFC East battle:

Foot surgery likely puts Edelman out until playoffs

A broken foot sidelined Julian Edelman Sunday against the New York Giants and nearly ended the New England Patriots' undefeated streak.

Now it looks as if Tom Brady and Co. will have to figure out how to fill that void for the remainder of the regular season.

The 29-year-old had a screw inserted into his left foot Monday, according to NFL.com, and the recovery time could be up to eight weeks.

That would put the team into the divisional round of the playoffs -- if they make it and shore up a first-round bye or win -- before regaining their leading wideout, who has more than 60 receptions this year and was on pace to tally more than 100.

Edelman currently leads the team in targets and receptions, and he's done so for the past three seasons.

A look at Tom Brady's top targets through six games

Tom Brady is spreading the ball around this season, having connected with 14 different players and throwing to 15 through six games.

As expected, Julian Edelman has been the New England Patriots quarterback's go-to guy, with Rob Gronkowski taking the obvious runner-up spot. WEEI's Christopher Price notes, however, that another pass-catcher has been making his presence felt--particularly when it comes to efficiency.
"One thing that has stood out over the course of the last few weeks is that while Julian Edelman has maintained his spot as the top target, Danny Amendola has continued to rise through the ranks, all while maintaining an impressive catch rate," writes Price. "Amendola’s 81 percent is tops among all players with at least 10 targets."
Here's how the top-four catchers have panned out so far, according to Price. (click the link at the end to see the full list.)
WR Julian Edelman: 45 catches on 66 targets (68 percent)
TE Rob Gronkowski: 34 catches on 54 targets (63 percent)
RB Dion Lewis: 26 catches on 36 targets (72 percent)
WR Danny Amendola: 25 catches on 31 targets (81 percent)

Gronk, Edelman roof-ride, high-five during parade

The snow finally subsided in Boston Wednesday, and the Patriots' players took full advantage: deflated footballs, Bud Lights and all.

As the team's Super Bowl parade hit the downtown streets, New England's receiving corps, namely Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, took it upon themselves to keep the crowd pumped up.

While Edelman rode atop the fleet of duck boats -- whirling his jacket and grabbing flags and signs to hold up -- Gronk pounded beers, caught balls from fans, and slapped the hands of onlookers hanging over the fencing on the street.

The scene was chronicled beautifully by the folks over at the Boston Globe; don't worry, Gronk kept his shirt on.

Edelman transforms Minitron into Supertron after title

Sunday's victory didn't only transform Julian Edelman into a Super Bowl champion; it transformed his nickname, as well.

A day after earning his first championship ring, the 28-year-old receiver released some new swag on his website, an upgrade to his popular Minitron t-shirt. The new shirt, donned Supertron, is a much larger Transformer-like robot showing off his Super Bowl ring.

The description of the item states: "Minitron upgrading Superbowl programs. Upgrade complete. Supertron operational."

Edelman once again led New England's passing attack in targets and receptions this season, finishing with 135 and 92, respectively.

AFC Championship Preview: Colts at Patriots

BY DAVID HEIM

For the ninth time in the Bill Belichick-Tom Brady era, the New England Patriots are playing in the AFC Championship game. Sunday marks the fourth straight season the Pats are playing in the conference final, but this season might be the most complete team to compete for a title even over those previous squads.

Edelman caves, promotes 'Minitron' swag on website

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

New England Patriots utility man Julian Edelman had a huge game Sunday against the Denver Broncos, accounting for two of the team’s five touchdowns in their 43-21 victory.

Now it’s time to see how much of an impact Mintron’s performance will have on the apparel sales on his website.

According to the Boston Globe, Edelman has recently decided to take on the nickname donned by teammate Tom Brady nearly a year ago, recently releasing a shirt that pays homage to the Transformer-esque moniker. The shirt, better displayed here, shows the throwback Patriots logo as one of the robotic figures.

Edelman taking different approach this time around

BY DAVID HEIM

Sure, more than 90 penalties were called in Week 2 of preseason matchups alone, but that's not something the New England Patriots are stressing about—at least as far as Julian Edelman is concerned.

The Patriots receiver, fresh off a breakout 105-catch season, was on the horn with WEEI Monday to discuss, among other things, the high number of flags thrown over the weekend, including the 28 in his team's 42-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles Friday night.

"Every team has to deal with it — our defense has to deal with it," he said. "That's the route they want to go, that's what we're going to have to do."

Brady: Edelman, Welker 'hard to compare' but similar

BY NICK ST. DENIS

For a brief period of time, Julian Edelman was considered a poor man's Wes Welker.

But with the chemistry Edelman has built with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady over the past couple years, he has impressively carved out his own distinct role--albeit one that will still seemingly forever be compared to Welker's.

Tuesday, Brady discussed that dynamic.

Brady 'kind of mentored' Edelman during free agency

BY DAVID HEIM

For wide receiver Julian Edelman, the reason to re-join the New England Patriots was plain and simple -- his quarterback.

“It would be very tough to leave [Tom Brady], because he’s my dawg,” Edelman told reporters Thursday on a conference call, via WEEI.

Brady and Edelman have grown together over the years, and after Edelman was Brady’s top receiving target in 2013, the close bond between quarterback and wide receiver is evident.

Edelman says picking Patriots 'wasn't that tough'

BY DAVID HEIM

The journey back to Foxborough was apparently a pretty easy one for wide receiver Julian Edelman, who agreed to a four-year contract with the Patriots last weekend.

In fact, the team’s lead receiver a year ago said he was happy to be returning to his “home” today on WAAF’s Hill-Man Morning Show.

"It wasn’t that tough [to decide], to tell you the truth," Edelman said on the show. "You go on these visits and these trips and everything and you see these wonderful organizations. I got to go home and see the Niners, and I grew up a huge Niners fan, but being in New England for the last five years, that’s just home. That’s just home for me right now.

Edelman, Pats find middle ground, agree to deal

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

After a week-long staring contest, the New England Patriots and wide receiver Julian Edelman finally blinked.

The team's No. 1 contributor in the passing game reportedly agreed to a deal Saturday, according to Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston, ensuring quarterback Tom Brady will have his favorite target back for a least one more season.

Edelman decided to test the free-agent market this past week despite ongoing negotiations with New England, but ultimately called Foxborough "home" via Twitter Saturday, saying he's "excited to be back."

Edelman to test market with Patriots offer on table

BY SEAN DONOVAN

The New England Patriots and leading receiver Julian Edelman worked towards an extension late into the negotiating window, but weren't able to come to terms.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Edelman will test free agency when it officially opens at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday. Multiple reports stated that New England had a three-year deal on the table, but Edelman will instead opt to see what the market determines his value to be.

Losing Edelman would be a tough break for a Patriots offense lacking experienced pass-catchers. His 105 receptions, 1,056 yards and six touchdowns all led the team by considerable margins, and he also fielded 35 of New England's 26 punt returns.

Pats cut seven, chat with Edelman ahead of FA start

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

In less than 24 hours, there could be a number of additions to the New England Patriots' squad via free agent contracts. On Monday, the team made some room for the potential newcomers.

Seven players were cut from the Pats' roster ahead of the official start of the free agency period Tuesday, a mix of practice squad participants and designations to Injured Reserve during the 2013 season. All were initially undrafted free agent signings from last spring.

The list of those that received pink slips includes running backs Sam McGuffie and Quentin Hines, offensive tackles Elvis Fisher and Brice Schwab, defensive tackle Cory Grissom, wide receiver T.J. Moe and linebacker Taylor Reed.

RPT: Patriots finally talking contracts with Edelman

BY NICK ST. DENIS

As of last week, the New England Patriots had reportedly yet to begin contract talks with their leading receiver and soon-to-be free agent Julian Edelman, instead focusing their attention on cornerback Aqib Talib.

But with Talib yet to be re-signed and likely to hit the open market Tuesday, the Patriots have shifted some attention to Edelman.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots had dialoge with Edelman and his representative Thursday.

With Talib in focus, Patriots yet to talk with Edelman

BY NICK ST. DENIS

New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman anchored the team's passing offense in 2013, and cornerback Aqib Talib anchored the Patriots' passing defense.

Now, the organization is tasked with anchoring both of them to the roster.

Both players are slated for free agency this offseason if they don't re-sign prior to the market opening in March. The Patriots are either taking it one player at a time, or they just don't see one as a priority.

Edelman on being a Super Bowl spectator: 'It sucks'

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

The New England Patriots were one game away from another Super Bowl trip this season, and wide receiver Julian Edelman was a large reason they made it as far as they did.

Despite achieving personal bests in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns, Edelman doesn't think close is close enough.

"It sucks. It flat-out sucks," he said Thursday on the SVP and Russillo Show. "Your goal is to play in the last game of the year and win it. We didn’t and we were really close. We overcame some stuff and you felt that momentum, like it was going to happen and it’s ‘We can do this.’ It just didn’t happen."
