Jets' new rusher Mauldin ready to get after the QB

The New York Jets went into the 2015 NFL Draft needing and edge rusher, and now they've got their guy.

With the first of their three acquired picks via a second-day trade with the Houston Texans, Gang Green took Louisville outside linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin at 82nd overall.

"As an edge rush guy, I have been working my butt off to do what I have to do to get to the quarterback," Mauldin said Friday night, via NewYorkJets.com. "I don’t care what I have to do, I take coaching and I take what I have to do to help my defense out.

"Mainly with the Jets I know … I am at a loss for words right now, I can’t even think right now ... I more than welcome being with the Jets. I know that I can help that defense, no matter what."

Mauldin accumulated 20.5 sacks and 31.5 tackles for loss in three collegiate seasons, having been a full-time starter at defensive end in 2013 before moving to a 3-4 outside 'backer spot in 2014. He'll compete with Calvin Pace, Quinton Coples and Jason Babin for work this coming season.
