A day after ripping the backup quarterback crew for its play so far this summer, Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone did more than just talk.
After a string of disappointing outings in the team's first four preseason games, Buffalo parted ways with third-year signal-caller Thad Lewis Tuesday, replacing him with veteran Jordan Palmer.
Lewis, who went 2-3 for the Bills last season filling in for E.J. Manuel, completed only 50 percent of his passes and threw two interceptions in his four appearances this season. Palmer, who's seen even less time as a starter in his seven years in the league, was cut by the Chicago Bears Sunday.

Hopkins' fate with Bills hinges on specialist role
BY DAN BEGNOCHE
Last season, Dan Carpenter was brought in as an injury replacement for Buffalo Bills kicker Dustin Hopkins, following his release by the Miami Dolphins. He subsequently put up career bests in field goal percentage and points in 2014 and was awarded a four-year contract for his efforts.
While a kick-off with the younger Hopkins seemed like a given this season now that the team has begun training camp, coach Doug Marrone quashed those thoughts Tuesday, looking instead to ride the Carpenter wave in terms of field goal duties.
"He has to play his way on to this roster as a kickoff specialist," Marrone said of Hopkins, who reportedly hasn't attempted a field goal yet in the team's first three camp sessions.

Moorman thinks Crossman deserves another year
BY DAN BEGNOCHE
Special teams coordinator Danny Crossman had two main tasks in focus upon his arrival to the Buffalo Bills this season: Improve a punt unit that gave up the most yards per attempt last season, and keep the dominance of the return game a main part of the team's game plan.
Things didn't go completely as planned.
The Bills' return game, which was ranked first and fourth in punt and kick return average last year, respectively, did a 180 this season. The squad finished 29th in both categories under Crossman, and it failed to convert a single touchdown in either category after tallying three combined scores last year.

Jackson's response to Moorman release: "WTF???"
BY NICK ST. DENIS
According to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News, the Buffalo Bills plan to release longtime punter Brian Moorman Tuesday.
"WTF??? Released Mooreman??? For what??," Bills running back Fred Jackson, a not-so-young veteran himself, tweeted Tuesday afternoon.
Surely, Jackson meant Moorman, without the "e." Spelling aside, the Moorman move, which was reportedly in favor of rookie punter Shawn Powell, is already resonating among the Bills faithful and players.
