Now-former Jets tailback Chris Ivory to sign with Jags
Chris Ivory is a goner. At least in terms of the New York Jets.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Ivory will sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars when the free agency period opens at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Multiple beat reporters confirmed the report, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network says Ivory's contract is "well above" $6 million per year.
Perhaps it was time for Gang Green to move on from the soon-to-be 28-year-old tailback, but now getting running back Bilal Powell locked up may be a heightened priority.

Dolphins have a chance to rack up the sacks
The Jacksonville Jaguars have had a tough time keeping their quarterback upright.
According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the Jags' offensive front has allowed at least four sacks in eight straight games--the NFL's longest active sack streak.
Miami garnered just one quarterback takedown last week in a win over the Washington Redskins, while Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles was sacked five times in a loss to the Carolina Panthers.
This week should tell us something about the Dolphins' defensive front.

Williams swings board 10 points in Bills' victory
BY NICK ST. DENIS
The Buffalo Bills beat the Jacksonville Jaguars by seven points Sunday -- with the help of Aaron Williams.
The Bills' cornerback-turned-safety was essentially responsible for 10 points in his team's favor, as his first-quarter interception was turned around into a Buffalo field goal, and his strip tackle in the second half negated what certainly should have been a Jags touchdown.
Buffalo was about to see its 10-point lead diminish to a field goal early in the third quarter when Jaguars receiver Denard Robinson B-lined for pay dirt on a 24-yard scamper.

Week 15 picks: Bills at Jaguars
Publisher Nick St. Denis, associate editor Dan Begnoche and senior contributor Sean Donovan pick the AFC matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Dan's take:
Unlike Buffalo, Jacksonville has shown progress despite its woes this season. One thing the Jaguars haven't shown, however, is a running game, which has been non-existent aside from last week against a porous Houston defense. Chad Henne's sub-par season continues with a pedestrian showing against the Bills' top-rated pass rush, which takes advantage of Jacksonville's troubled offensive line. A strong turnaround by Buffalo's running back corps fuels an offense in desperate need of some consistency.
Prediction: Bills 22, Jaguars 13

Four Point Stance: Bills at Jaguars
BY DAN BEGNOCHE
The Buffalo Bills (4-9) are looking to to avoid a fifth straight 10-loss season, and the first task in doing so is a Sunday afternoon visit to the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-9), who are riding a surprising three-game win streak.
Jacksonville has taken out the division foe Houston Texans twice in three weeks, the main reason behind the team's second half turnaround. The other part of that success has been the team's turnover rate, which has been pretty solid (+5) since its first win five weeks ago.
The opposite has been plaguing the turnover-happy Bills, who have posted a minus-three turnover rate in the same time frame. The team is still searching for some consistency from rookie E.J. Manuel, who has missed some opportune scoring chances while dealing with injuries and inconsistent performances from his receiving corps.

Jets host LaRon Landry's older brother, Dawan
BY NICK ST. DENIS
The New York Jets lost standout safety LaRon Landry to free agency, but they might keep it in the family.
Gang Green hosted veteran safety Dawan Landry, LaRon's older brother, for a visit Wednesday, according to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Landry, most recently of the Jacksonville Jaguars, is a perfect candidate for a team that is looking for wallet-friendly and practical help to get it through the first stage of a retooling phase under new general manager John Idzik. (photo: Keith Allison, Flickr)

Film Review: Jags' pressure, coverage vs. Patriots
BY SEAN DONOVAN
But New England isn't without flaws, and that showed this past week, as it needed all 60 minutes to beat the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars by a 23-16 margin.
The should-be overmatched Jaguars kept it close with their defense, by playing solid coverage while getting pressure on Brady.

Tom Brady says Patriots were 'lucky' to beat Jaguars
BY NICK ST. DENIS
For the second week in a row, the New England Patriots got off to an incredibly slow start. This time around, they were fortunate enough to win.
Six days after losing to the San Francisco 49ers in a game they were down 31-3 early in the second half, New England didn't score its first touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars until the final seconds of the first half. The Patriots went on to win 23-16.
“We played pretty terrible out there," Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said after the game. "It came down to the wire and the defense made some plays but it was a bad sixty minutes of football. We got out competed, out fought and we’re lucky to win.”

Gameday Deciding Factors: Patriots at Jaguars
BY DAN BEGNOCHE
The two-win Jaguars have struggled against the division as well as on the scoreboard, and they will now face a Patriots offense that's put up more than 500 points already this season. New England will be looking to gain some ground in the AFC standings, as it currently sits third behind Denver and Houston in the hunt for home field advantage in the playoffs. (photo: Mark Kortum, Flickr)
The talented Mr. Ridley. Running back Stevan Ridley is quietly putting together a season for the Patriots' record books. He is up over 1,100 yards for the season, currently 11th on the team's all-time list. Two more strong games could put him the top five, and a game against Jacksonville is a good place to start. The Jags are currently touting the league's worst rush defense, giving up 148 yards a game.
Third down. Despite netting more than 500 yards last week against San Fransisco, the Patriots couldn't get the yards when it counted — on third down. The offense converted only 13 percent of its third down opportunities last week when it has been averaging close to 50 percent. Lucky for them Jacksonville's defense has been allowing teams to convert 42 percent of their third downs.
AFC East troubles. Jacksonville has gotten a heavy dose of the AFC East of late, and it hasn't been very enjoyable. The team is 0-3 against the division so far, having played the three other teams back-to-back the past three weeks. In those three loses, the defense has allowed 25 points per game, while the offense has only mustered an average of 10. That's not a good sign as they prepare for a team putting up an average of 36 points.
More Smith. Linebacker Daryl Smith, the Jaguars' all-time leading tackler, has been out all season with a groin problem, but he was activated from IR prior to Sunday and is slated to start. This could be a good morale boost for a team in desperate need of a lift.

Week 16 AFC East game picks: Patriots at Jaguars
Lead writer Nick St. Denis and AFC East Daily contributors Dan Begnoche and Sean Donovan pick the New England Patriots' road matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Upset Alert: Just kidding. Cecil Shorts, who leads the AFC in yards per reception, is up against a Patriots defense that has given up the league's most passing plays of 20 yards or more. That's all the Jags have going for them in a game that will likely be over at halftime.
Nick's take:

Prediction: Patriots 40, Jaguars 17 (Nick's record: 34-12)
The Jags are 0-3 against the AFC East, and now they get to face a Patriots team coming off a loss of its own. Jacksonville has had trouble stopping any offense this season let alone New England's, which is touting the league's No. 1 squad. This should be a cakewalk for the Pats.

Patriots won't sell Jaguars' passing attack short
BY NICK ST. DENIS
If there's been one knock on the New England Patriots this season, it's been their pass defense.
Opposing teams understandably rack up a lot of yards against New England, as they're often playing from behind. However, the Patriots have given up 68 passing plays of 20 yards or more, which is the most in the NFL, while surrendering third downs at a 41.2 percent rate.
As a team, New England is heavily favored against the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, but the Jaguars and their quietly explosive air attack have an opportunity to take some shots against the Patriots' secondary. (photo: Lizz Koch, Flickr)

Dolphins' new quarterback upends their old one
BY SEAN DONOVAN
On a day that Henne returned to Miami to face his former team, Tannehill had the best game of his young career, as his Dolphins defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-3.
The rookie completed 22-of-28 passes for 220 yards and a pair of touchdowns, which was good for a 123.2 passer rating, his highest mark of the season. (photo: June Rivera, Flickr)
Henne, meanwhile, could not match the effort and was only able to lead his offense to three points on the day.
Gameday Deciding Factors: Jaguars at Dolphins
BY SEAN DONOVAN
The Jacksonville Jaguars (2-11) take the short trip down Route 95 to face the Miami Dolphins (5-8) in a game that has no relevance in the AFC playoff picture. Instead, most of the intrigue surrounds the not-so-dramatic return of former Dolphins' quarterback Chad Henne.
Henne's replacement, Ryan Tannehill, has hit somewhat of a rookie wall in the latter half of the season, but may find respite in a Jacksonville defense that ranks in the bottom-five in the league in both points and total yards allowed. (photo: Lizz Koch, Flickr)
Steady offense. The Dolphins don't need to get creative in this one. Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas should see plenty of action against Jacksonville's 31st ranked rushing defense while Tannehill plays it safe, mostly utilizing the short passing game and play action. The balanced attack should provide enough points for the defense to close the game out.
Big-play prevention. Since taking the starting job, Henne has uncovered one of the league's most promising receiving tandems in Cecil Shorts and Justin Blackmon. The Dolphins' primary focus should be preventing the duo from beating them with the deep ball, as Jacksonville's offense offers little else in terms of playmakers.
Protecting Tannehill. Backup right tackle Nate Garner's insertion into the starting lineup has actually improved that side of the line. He will get tested by defensive end Jason Babin, who had three sacks against Miami last season playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. Keeping Tannehill clean will be key in sustaining the long, clock-eating drives that will secure a Dolphins victory.
Pass rush. Miami's defense has accrued the 5th most sacks of any team in the league, while Jacksonville's offensive line has given up the 4th most sacks to opponents. If the Dolphins can capitalize on this weakness, it should completely stifle Henne and the Jaguars' offense.

Week 15 AFC East game picks: Jaguars at Dolphins
Lead writer Nick St. Denis and AFC East Daily contributors Dan Begnoche and Sean Donovan pick the Miami Dolphins' in-state contest with the AFC's Jacksonville Jaguars.
The injury-depleted Jaguars get receiver Cecil Shorts back, but that won't be enough. Without Maurice Jones-Drew and a run defense on the other side, Jacksonville isn't much of a threat to anyone. With receiver Davone Bess missing his first career game coupled with the Jags' awful run defense, the Dolphins will run the ball at a 2:1 ratio.
The Jaguars have lost the first two of their four consecutive games against AFC East opposition. They drop a third, as Miami's pass rush stifles Henne and Jacksonville's porous defense allows the Dolphins' tailbacks to control the game. And perhaps just for old time's sake, the Sun Life Stadium crowd gets to see Henne walk away a loser one more time.

Jets' young D-linemen provide sign of things to come
BY NICK ST. DENIS
The New York Jets ran the ball down the throats of the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, but the efforts of their offensive line and tailbacks may have taken a back seat to those of a pair of promising young defensive linemen in Quinton Coples and Muhammad Wilkerson.
Wilkerson was stout throughout the game, logging nearly double the amount of playing time as Coples in the Jets' victory. But Coples made significant use of his work.
Each player recorded a sack, with Wilkerson hurrying quarterback Chad Henne three times and hitting him once, according to Pro Football Focus. Coples hit Henne two more times and hurried him on another. (photo: Daniel Speiss, Flickr)
Coples' QB hurry was a big one, as it ended the Jaguars' last-minute comeback bid, forcing Henne to throw the ball up for grabs and into the hands of Jets defensive back Ellis Lankster.

Jets ride ideal 1-2 punch at tailback to beat Jaguars
BY NICK ST. DENIS
Running back Bilal Powell rushed for 78 yards on 19 carries, and fellow tailback Shonn Greene gained 77 yards on 20 carries. Each scored a rushing touchdown, too, and Gang Green recorded their third win in four games with a 17-10 victory.
The ideal gameplan for the New York Jets' offense includes a lot of carries divided evenly between running backs and limited chances taken via the passing game.
That's exactly what transpired Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Gameday Deciding Factors: Jets at Jaguars
BY NICK ST. DENIS
In the midst of an easy final stretch of the schedule, the New York Jets are facing their usual late-season do-or-die situation. A win improves them to 6-7 and maintains their minuscule hope in attaining a Wildcard beth for at least one more week. A loss could mean a plethora of depth chart adjustments next week.
The good thing is, the Jets are in Jacksonville to face an absolutely awful Jaguars squad. The Jags are 2-10 and decimated with injuries, missing running backs Maurice Jones-Dew and Rashad Jennings as well as receiver Cecil Shorts. (photo: Mark Kortum, Flickr)
DECIDING FACTORS:
Leash length. Jets coach Rex Ryan opted to go back to quarterback Mark Sanchez this week despite benching Sanchez last Sunday after a three-pick first half. Greg McElroy came in against the Arizona Cardinals and was serviceable, leading New York down the field on his first drive and throwing the would-be game-winning touchdown. It was the first time Sanchez has ever been benched, but will it be the last? He's supposedly on a short leash and could get pulled again if he has multiple screw-ups.
Run commitment. The Jets showed a little more commitment to the run last week, attempting 43 rushes and possessing the ball for more than 38 minutes. Gang Green will look to do the same against a Jaguars defense that is giving up 144 yards a game on the ground. Bilal Powell has been getting more early carries lately, with Shonn Greene being the grind-it-out-in-the-second-half back. That'll be a good formula against the Jags.
Henne and the Jets. One thing the Jaguars have going for them is their quarterback's history against Gang Green. Chad Henne, a former starter for the Miami Dolphins, is 3-1 against the Jets, throwing six touchdowns to just one interception in that span. That doesn't mean a whole lot now given his decimated skill position corps in Jacksonville, but it's worth noting that he has some confidence working against a Rex Ryan-defense.
Cumberland audition. As usual, Sanchez will have very little to work with in terms of pass-catchers. Tight end Dustin Keller, whose season has been plagued with injuries this season, will sit out again Sunday, making room for backup Jeff Cumberland, who hasn't been bad at all regularly filling in. Cumberland caught a touchdown pass last week and scored against the Houston Texans earlier in the season subbing for Keller. Cumberland, like Keller, is a free agent after the season, so he's trying to make the best of his audition time. Look for Sanchez to connect with him early and often.

Week 14 AFC East game picks: Jets at Jaguars
Lead writer Nick St. Denis and AFC East Daily contributors Dan Begnoche and Sean Donovan pick the New York Jets' AFC road matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jets' quarterback situation officially came unglued last week, but by virtue of Arizona's own train-wreck at the position, Gang Green emerged with a victory. Henne presents a stronger challenge, but he leads an offensive unit decimated by injuries. Sanchez bounces back behind another strong team rushing performance, which has quietly averaged 138.1 yards per game in its last seven contests.
Nick's take:
Jets running backs Shonn Green and Bilal Powell will have every chance to succeed against the league's second-worst run defense, which has surrendered 16 touchdowns on the ground this season. Plus, Rex Ryan and Tony Sparano won't want to give Mark Sanchez too many chances to screw up. Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne, a former Miami Dolphin, looks to improve on his 3-1 head-to-head record against the Jets, though he'll try to do it with an incredibly thin skill position corps.
Prediction: Jets 17, Jaguars 6 (Nick's record: 29-9)

Henne and the Jets: Jag QB has good history vs. NYJ
BY NICK ST. DENIS
Despite their shortcomings this season, the New York Jets face a pretty workable task Sunday in the Jacksonville Jaguars.
However, the Jaguars have one thing going for them -- their backup quarterback. (photo: Alan Kotok, Flickr)
Jacksonville signal-caller Chad Henne, who took over under center a few weeks ago for the injured Blaine Gabbert, is slated to face a familiar foe this week -- one he should have a decent amount of confidence against.
Henne, a former starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, has thrown six touchdowns to just a single interception in his career against the Jets, going 3-1 in the process in games spanning 2009-10.

Bills' 'backup' tailback carries offense in win over Jax
BY NICK ST. DENIS
Things are a whole lot easier when the Buffalo Bills have enough carries to spare between their two No. 1-caliber running backs.
A stout defensive showing and ground-and-pound-friendly weather Sunday eliminated any urgency with the Bills' offense, and 186 rushing yards between Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller was the result in a 34-18 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“We expected to be able to feed Fred the rock, to give it to C.J., have those guys coming in and they’re a tough one-two punch," Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said, according to BuffaloBills.com. "Everybody knows, but as we saw today especially, and the defense really stepped up and played great.”
