Peyton Manning shares some wisdom with Tannehill
The Miami Dolphins' new head coach has some connections.
Adam Gase, formerly the Denver Broncos' offensive coordinator, recently hosted future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning for a visit to Dolphins headquarters.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill, however, has nothing to worry about job-wise (at least not right now). In fact, it was for his benefit.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Manning took the opportunity to share some knowledge with the fifth-year signal-caller, particularly regarding the nuances of Gase's offense.
"It was really cool," Tannehill said. "A guy that had his career, the living legend he is, coming off a Super Bowl winning season --- it was really cool just to be able to sit and pick his brain about things he's done in this offense and football things in general: snap counts, things you like, the way you want guys to run routes, little details about the game. We really just got to talk the game, which is something we both love."

Brady, Gronk among top 10 in 2015-16 player sales
The New England Patriots may not always open their wallets, but their fans certainly do.
The NFLPA released the top 50 player sales list for the 2015-16 season Monday, which is based on total sales of officially licensed merchandise. Three Pats players landed in the top 25, with Tom Brady snagging the top spot.
Rob Gronkowski was No. 8, while wideout Julian Edelman came in at No. 23.
Ryan Tannehill (No. 34) was the first non-Patriot from the division to make an appearance in the top 50, while a pair of Bills (Sammy Watkins, No. 47, and LeSean McCoy, No. 49) snuck in toward the bottom of the list.
Only one Jet — Darrelle Revis — made the cut, coming in at No. 45.
Check out the full list here.

Tannehill: I'll welcome a QB draft pick with open arms
Talk of replacing Ryan Tannehill seems to be a perennial conversation in South Florida, and this year’s no different — regardless of the new team leadership.
Tannehill, as he’s always done though, has continued to talk about the betterment of the team over his personal feelings on the Miami Dolphins potentially drafting a quarterback, which front office exec Mike Tannenbaum mentioned recently.
Per Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald:
"That's the nature of the business,” Tannehill said. “If you're not doing the job good enough then they're looking to replace you. And you want to have depth.
"I love he guys in the room ... I'm excited about the room we have and if we add somebody else, I'll be open arms and welcome him in. We're just there to push each other. Push each to be better and enjoy the whole process."

Ajayi on taking reins of Dolphins' backfield: 'Let's go'
Following the news of Lamar Miller's departure and the missed opportunity on C.J. Anderson, Ryan Tannehill reached out to 22-year-old running back Jay Ajayi.
The sophomore, who ran for 187 yards on 49 carries in his rookie season, had only four words for him, according to the Palm Beach Post:
"He looked me square in the eye and said 'I’m ready, let’s go,'" Tannehill said. "I think he's excited about the opportunity to have a bigger role.
"You look at the subbing patterns from the last few years in Gase’s offense — he doesn’t run guys in and out through a series. A guy goes in and he plays a series. I think that’s going to be huge for guys like Jay who needs to get in to a rhythm and develop other parts of his game. You really saw him come on strong at the end of last year, the second half of last year. I think he’s going to come back and be even better this year."READ MORE >>

Jennings: Dolphins babied Tannehill, but not his fault
Wide receiver Greg Jennings was asked this week on ESPN if the Miami Dolphins have babied quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
Jennings' response: "I’m going to take ‘kind of’ out of it, he has been." The veteran wideout, however, doesn't blame Tannehill.
Via the Palm Beach Post:

"This is no knock on Ryan. This is not Ryan’s choice. He wants to be free,” Jennings said. "He wants to have that freedom, that liberty at the line of scrimmage, as most quarterbacks do. When you show your quarterback that you trust him, you give him freedom. …"Jennings, who barely amassed 200 yards last season, likely won't be back this year. However, he's apparently not wrong on this one.

Grier: Dolphins can win with Tannehill at quarterback
Mike Tannenbaum is wasting no time in his clean-up of the Miami Dolphins leadership.
The team's operations czar promoted Chris Grier, the 'Phins director of college scouting, to the general manager position Monday, and Grier was put on the hot seat pretty quickly about Miami's roster.
The newly appointed GM spent part of his morning defending quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who finished ninth in total passing yards this season but tied for third in sacks.
"I like Ryan," Grier said via Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. "He's our guy. I think yesterday was a great indication of some of the things that we can do. We can win with Ryan."

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill continues to take a beating
Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill has spent plenty of time on the turf this season. And throughout his pro career, for that matter.
Tannehill was sacked six times Sunday by the Indianapolis Colts--a team that rarely sacks anyone. That brings the Dolphins' offensive sack total to 44 for the season.
According to Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post, Tannehill's 183 sacks during his four seasons is the most of anyone in that span.
Blame it on an oft-injured and oft-changing offensive line, and blame it in part on Tannehill, who could seemingly use some improvement in his pocket awareness.
Either way, the Dolphins have a big problem in the pass protection category, and their record will continue to reflect it until something changes.

Campbell expects bounce-back from pass attack
Aside from a 38-yard highlight-reel-worthy touchdown catch by DeVante Parker, the Miami Dolphins' passing offense Sunday left a lot to be desired.
The Dolphins ultimately ousted the Baltimore Ravens, 15-13, though quarterback Ryan Tannehill struggled against a passing defense ranked in the bottom third in the NFL.
Tannehill finished 9-for-19 with 86 yards, including the scoring strike.
“Certainly most games if you’re throwing for 86 yards you’re hoping you get three touchdowns out of those 86," coach Dan Campbell said Monday, via the Palm Beach Post. He isn't concerned, however, about the air attack and vowed that it would complement the run game better moving forward.
Miami gained 137 yards on 26 rushes against the Ravens.
As for the rookie Parker, the team will have a decision to make regarding his role when Richard Matthews returns.
“That’s hard to say just because of where Rishard Matthews has been and knowing the production he’s got when he comes back,” Campbell said. “... I’ll say this: DeVante Parker’s getting better. And with every play he makes it’s going to be harder to get him off the field.”

Tannehill to use his legs more down the stretch?
Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill is on pace to set career lows in each major rushing category, having accumulated just 44 yards on 17 carries through nine games this year.
That's somewhat of a surprise given the fact that he came into the NFL a few years ago as a legitimate threat on the ground and has proven himself in that capacity in years' past.
As Adam Beasley of The Miami Herald points out, Tannehill has fewer rushing yards than Jay Cutler, Andy Dalton, Matt Cassel, and even Eli Manning, so far this season.
The Dolphins, however, are looking to change that.

Ryan Tannehill happy with Dolphins' offense so far
Ryan Tannehill has been very efficient in a few brief appearances in three preseason games.
The Miami Dolphins' starting quarterback has connected on more than 80 percent of his passes and has amassed 303 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. It's been a small body of work, but Tannehill is happy with the direction the offense is headed.
Writes Walker: Tannehill’s accuracy has been impressive. He has just eight incompletions in 41 attempts. Tannehill’s ball placement also has improved to allow his receivers to run in stride, which is important for Miami’s offense.

Tannehill hoping to get TE Cameron more involved
Tight end Jordan Cameron joined the Miami Dolphins this season with a lot to prove.
Coming off an abbreviated year due to injury, the former Pro Bowler is hoping to get back to his 2013 form, while the Dolphins, who lost Charles Clay in the offseason, are hoping the same.
Cameron shined in the team's first scrimmage but was pretty nonexistent in its first preseason game. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill is hoping to get the third-year tight end more involved in the offense as things progress this preseason.
"He's doing everything I could ask for from him right now," Tannehill said Monday via the Sun Sentinel. "He's a big play maker for us. Honestly, we'd like to get him the ball probably more than he's getting it right now.
"If we get in the red zone, he's definitely going to be a big threat for us all year."

Week 1 preseason follow-up: Dolphins at Bears
The Miami Dolphins once again spent big this offseason, signing defensive tackle Ndaukong Suh and extending quarterback Ryan Tannehill for a combined $210 million. In the team's first preseason game and the starters' short appearance, their investment seemed pretty sound.
Tannehill went 6-for-7 for 56 yards, connecting with wide receiver Jarvis Landry for a touchdown to finish off his one and only drive of the night. Suh, though quiet on the stat sheet, was doubled for a majority of his snaps and created some opportunities for his fellow line mates, while also forcing the Chicago line to jump offsides on one play.
Check out these post-game roundups for some in-depth analysis on the team's 27-10 loss:

Tannenbaum: Suh must 'do more than just play well'
Ndamukong Suh has a job to do. Well, maybe more than just one.
This offseason, the Miami Dolphins showered the veteran defensive tackle with the grandest contract for a defensive player in NFL history: $114 million over six years, with $60 million guaranteed.
"A lot of resources are going to Ndamukong. We’re not hiding that," Dolphins executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum said Thursday, via the Palm Beach Post.

"In a cap system, players who take up a big part of your cap have to do more than just play well.”
For that kind of money, Miami wants Suh to be more than just a great player. Upon signing the mega deal, Tannenbaum has tasked him with another challenge.

Tannehill 'had no expectations' about contract extension
There's been a lot of dissent over whether Ryan Tannehill is a franchise quarterback. Apparently, there's none among the Miami Dolphins' front office.
The 26-year-old inked a six-year contract extension with the team Monday, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, a deal reportedly worth $96 million. The fourth-year signal-caller will earn $45 million in guaranteed money through 2020, while averaging $16 million per year.
"You look back at all the great players over the years, and most of them spent a significant amount of time in one place," Tannehill told the team's website Monday. "I didn't know it was going to come this year. I had no expectations, but so fortunate, so blessed to be in this position and to be able to have the opportunity to stay here for the next six years."
The deal seems to be a positive for both sides involved, with Tannehill getting some job security and a decent paycheck, while the Dolphins shore up a better-than-average quarterback at a pretty good going rate.
Tannehill was 11th overall last season in passing yards (4,045), 12th in touchdowns (27) and 14th in passer rating (92.8).

Tannehill 'on point' leading Dolphins past Bears
BY NICK ST. DENIS
Ryan Tannehill completed his first 14 pass attempts Sunday against the Chicago Bears, and the Miami Dolphins rolled on.
Tannehill finished the game 25-of-32 for 277 yards and a pair of touchdowns, completing at least two passes to eight different receivers and going the distance without a turnover.
“He was on point,” receiver Mike Wallace said of Tannehill after the game, via MiamiDolphins.com. “The whole game he was hitting all the guys who were getting open. [Charles] Clay had a good day. We were just clicking today on offense.

Tannehill assesses tailbacks corps without Moreno
BY DAN BEGNOCHE
Ryan Tannehill was on the ground a lot last season.
The sophomore quarterback was sacked 58 times last season, a number that's become a torturous reminder of the Miami Dolphins' offensive line woes a season ago. Coupled with those struggles up front, however was also some troubling play in the running game.
Miami's ground attack amassed 1,440 yards on the ground last year (90 yards per game on average), 25th overall in the league. Neither of the team's two main running backs -- Lamar Miller or recent returnee Daniel Thomas -- had more than 750 yards, and now both will be once again in charge of leading the Dolphins' rushing attack after losing Knowshon Moreno to an elbow injury.

Albert prepped for former team's 'fighter mentality'
BY DAN BEGNOCHE
The Kansas City Chiefs may be 0-2, but the team is fully capable of stringing together some wins. Just ask Branden Albert.
Before arriving in Miami on a huge free agent contract, Albert helped a Chiefs squad that went 2-14 in 2012 break off a nine-game win streak en route to an 11-5 season last year. He was in the top 10 among tackles in pass protection during that time, according to ProFootballFocus, despite missing four games due to a knee injury.
Now set for a reunion with his former team, Albert, who's currently ranked the No. 1 tackle in the league by PFF, offered some words of caution for his current teammates on what to expect come Sunday.

Belichick wary of Tannehill's ability to use his legs
BY SEAN DONOVAN
Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill's athletic ability has always been a dangerous, if rarely-used, aspect of his game.
This year, under Bill Lazor's Chip Kelly-influenced offense, that trait figures to be a threatening elements of Miami's option playcalls.
This fact is not lost on the head coach of the Dolphins' Week 1 opponent, the New England Patriots' Bill Belichick.
