People in Bart Scott's camp still think the former New York Jets linebacker has it on the field. Regardless, he's found another profession.
CBS announced Monday that Scott, who spent last year on the network's "That Other Pregame Show" after not signing with an NFL team, has been promoted to a seat on "NFL Today."
"He could have had an opportunity to play [in the NFL in 2014], but this was too good to pass up," Scott's agent Mark Lepsletter said, via Newsday.

Bart Scott rips 'loser, fake tough guy' Incognito
BY NICK ST. DENIS
Bart Scott isn't about to go incognito when talking about Richie Incognito.
Scott, a former New York Jets linebacker who has faced the soon-to-be former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman on numerous occasions, said Monday that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell needs to kick Incognito out of the league.
Incognito was recently suspended indefinitely by his team after evidence of his over-the-top harassment of Dolphins tackle Jonathan Martin surfaced, which led to Martin's leaving the team to seek treatment.

Jets 'backers Davis, Harris challenge each other
BY NICK ST. DENIS
With the departure of veteran defender Bart Scott this offseason, second-year linebacker Demario Davis has been automatically upgraded to a starting inside 'backer gig.
Davis thinks the transition will be a smooth one thanks to his dynamic with fellow starter David Harris. (photo: Matt Britt, Flickr)
“He challenges me more in the mental portion,” Davis told Conor Orr of the Star-Ledger. “I try and challenge him more in the physical portion, making sure he’s keeping his wheels going, keeping his speed up and making sure he’s agile. It’s a give-give situation.”

Rex gives linebacker Demario Davis nod to start
BY NICK ST. DENIS
As linebacker Bart Scott's production and ability diminished through the 2011 season, the New York Jets were primed to begin grooming his replacement.
Gang Green drafted linebacker Demario Davis last April for that reason, and a year later, Davis has officially taken over for the maligned "Madbacker." (photo: Matt Britt, Flickr)
Scott was released last month, and Monday, Jets coach Rex Ryan said Davis will start next to fellow insider 'backer David Harris when the 2013 commences.

Jets save $30M-plus by cutting Scott, Pace, 3 others
BY NICK ST. DENIS
John Idzik made his first significant decision(s) as the New York Jets' new general manager Tuesday, cutting linebackers Bart Scott and Calvin Pace.
Safety Eric Smith, offensive lineman Jason Smith and tight end Josh Baker were also part of a collective salary disposal that cleared up roughly $31 million in cap space. (photo: Marianne O'Leary, Flickr)
The move puts the Jets below the cap, and more money-saving cuts are ahead, likely including Tim Tebow, which would free up a little more than $1 million, according to nyjetscap.com.

Report: Jets to cut Scott, Pace sooner than later
BY NICK ST. DENIS
The New York Jets have some major fat-trimming to do on their roster. They'll get started on that sooner than later. (photo: Marianne O'Leary, Flickr)
Gang Green is expected to cut starting linebackers Calvin Pace and Bart Scott in the coming weeks, according to the NY Daily News.
The preliminary housecleaning, which includes dropping reserve tackle Jason Smith, would and will clear up $27.7 in salary cap space, putting the Jets under the projected $121 million cap and in position to make some moves.

Jets' usually stout run defense arguably worst in NFL
BY NICK ST. DENIS
The New York Jets used to boast one of the most feared run defenses in the NFL. Now, running backs can't wait to face Gang Green.
Through four weeks, New York is giving up 172.8 yards a game on the ground, which ranks 31st in the league.
"It's absurd. We pride ouselves on that," Jets linebacker Bart Scott said Monday, according to CBSSports. "We know we can stop the run. "
The Jets have given up a league-high seven rushing touchdowns, including three Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers gained a ridiculous 245 yards rushing against the Jets and picked up 16 first downs on the ground.

Scott: Jets 'D' back to pressure, aggressive mentality

In 2009, the Jets boasted the NFL's best defense. In 2010, they dropped to No. 3 (based on average yards against), and in 2011, Gang Green's defense fell to a disappointing (in their eyes) No. 5 ranking.
This season, New York is re-focused on its 2009 mentality: pressure, pressure and more pressure.
"It’s all about playing faster and playing and going and not just reacting all the time," Scott told the Newark Star-Ledger earlier this week. "Go in there, and we put the pressure on people. Like we did our first year. We came out, we blitzed, we didn’t care. You pick it up or you didn’t pick it up. Somebody swings, so what? We’re going to hit your quarterback."
The Jets were middle-of-the-pack that year in sacks, but they put an incredible amount of pressure on opposing quarterbacks, making them throw the ball before they wanted to. New York's defense held opposing quarterbacks to a 51.7 completion percentage, which was league-best by a decent margin.
In 2010, Gang Green was still stout defensively but relied more on the offense than it did the year before. The Jets were even more passive in 2011, and they were much less effective.
"The second year, it’s like, we’ll come off," Scott said. "If a guy swings, you come off your blitz and stuff like that. Then what happens is it becomes a three-man rush, a defense that was supposed to be an aggressive defense turns into a passive one, and gives the quarterback more time."

Report: Scott gets approval from Jets to seek trade

The Jets owe linebacker Bart Scott more than $18 million over the next three years, and apparently they'd just assume someone else make the payments.
The New York Daily News reported Monday that Gang Green gave Scott permission to seek a trade, as the price the Jets are paying for the amount of snaps they're giving Scott isn't of the frugal variety.
Scott has seen a decrease in playing time each year since signing a $48 million contract with the Jets in 2009. He was part of the fraternity of defensive players Jets coach Rex Ryan brought to New York from Baltimore.
