Amendola sticks with Pats, once again restructures deal
For the second straight season, New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola is choosing football in January and February over his contract.
The fourth-year wideout agreed to another pay cut Friday, which calls for a maximum of $7.35 million over two years, with an additional $750,000 in incentives and roster bonuses, according to ESPN.
Amendola didn't have much of a leg to stand on in the negotiations, acting as the team's No. 3 receiver and playing only 51 percent of the team's offensive snaps last season.

Amendola enjoys playing 'Braveheart' on special teams
Danny Amendola hasn't done a whole lot on offense this season, aside from a handful of catches in the regular season and hauling in a bomb from fellow wideout Julian Edelman last weekend.
Amendola, however, has established a nice little niche as a return man for the New England Patriots. Apparently, it's like being in a movie. A crazy, medieval war movie.
"I love playing special teams," Amendola said this week, via WEEI. "It's fun, it's like 'Braveheart' sometimes but it's a lot of fun. I love every aspect of football, so getting out on the field is fun for me."

BY NICK ST. DENIS
Just when we thought Bill Belichick couldn't get any more Bill Belichick-ish, he goes all Bill Belichick on us.
The longtime New England Patriots coach was asked Monday about the health of tight end Rob Gronkowski and receiver Danny Amendola.

Amendola looking like Brady's new Welker
BY NICK ST. DENIS
Tom Brady didn't think Danny Amendola would be back in the second half. The veteran field general was happy his new wideout returned.
Amendola battled a groin injury midway through the New England Patriots' 23-21 victory over the Buffalo Bills but went on to haul in 10 catches for 104 yards.
"He gave it everything he had and that is all you can ask," Brady told reporters after the game. "I didn’t really expect anything to happen in the second half, I thought he was going to be out for the rest of the game. He showed a lot of toughness, mental and physical and made some really great plays for us."

Injury Report: Gronk likely out, Amendola in
BY NICK ST. DENIS
Rob Gronkowski wasn't expected to appear in uniform Week 1 of the 2013 season, and he's likely to meet expectations.
The All-World tight end has been ruled doubtful for the New England Patriots' Sunday divisional bout with the Buffalo Bills, according to the NFL's official injury report Friday. Gronkowski is still trying to ease back into action after undergoing a back surgery earlier this year that followed four surgeries on his arm.
There is good news, however, regarding another one of quarterback Tom Brady's pass-catchers. At least good news for New England.

Amendola not worried about Welker comparisons
BY NICK ST. DENIS
All season long, New England Patriots receiver Danny Amendola will be compared to the guy he replaced in Denver Broncos receiver Wes Welker. (photo: Jeffrey Beall, Flickr)
But for now, Amendola is trying to put that aside.
"That's not something I need to worry about," he said Tuesday, via ESPN Boston. "I'm worried about the playbook and getting the routes down and getting on the same page as my teammates. The good thing is I don't have to worry about that stuff."

Report: Talks between Welker, Patriots at a halt
BY SEAN DONOVAN
Over the past six seasons, wideout Wes Welker helped redefine the slot receiver position in the NFL and made the New England Patriots' passing offense one of the most dynamic this league has ever seen.
But it seems like that marriage may be coming to the end. (photo: Karen Cardoza, Flickr)
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, talks between the sides have concluded for the time being. Teams across the league have been furiously negotiating and signing top-tier free agents, a group which Welker solidly belongs.
