Harvin's deal official, signs one-year contract with Bills

The Buffalo Bills' wide receiver corps looks to be pretty well rounded out ahead of April's draft, as the team officially announced its acquisition of 26-year-old Percy Harvin Wednesday.

Harvin, who spent half of last season with the New York Jets, will receive $6 million for his services and will likely battle Robert Woods for the No. 2 spot on the team's depth chart.

Aside from Harvin and Woods, Buffalo currently has sophomore Sammy Watkins, Chris Hogan, Marcus Easley and Marquise Goodwin to build their lineup, as well as a slew of young wideouts vying for a roster spot.

Harvin will wear No. 18 for the Bills, according to Chris Brown of buffalobills.com.

Bills reportedly set to bring in WR Harvin on visit

The divisional merry-go-round from Tuesday's free-agent madness looks like it will continue this week, as a former Jets receiver is set to make the trip out west to One Bills Drive.

Percy Harvin, who was released by New York Tuesday following the formal acquisition of Brandon Marshall, is set to meet with Rex Ryan and the Buffalo brass, according to Mike Rodak of ESPN.com.

A time or date for the meeting is not known at this point.

Ryan and the Bills are most likely looking for some talent on the cheap with Harvin, who spent some time with Buffalo's new coach prior to his release. If a deal goes through, Harvin would likely battle Robert Woods for the No. 2 receiver spot behind Sammy Watkins, and he could certainly help a beleaguered special teams squad turn around a forgettable 2014 performance.

Jets' deal with WR Marshall official; Harvin released

The New York Jets formally announced the acquisition of one controversial wide receiver, following it with the termination of another.

The team officially announced the trade that brings veteran wideout Brandon Marshall to New York from the Chicago Bears, a deal that cost Gang Green a fifth-round draft pick. The Bears also sent over a seventh-round selection.

"I can’t wait to get out there and play on the world’s biggest stage,” Marshall told newyorkjets.com Tuesday.

The move was followed with the expected release of Percy Harvin, who was acquired in the middle of last season from the Seattle Seahawks.

As Marshall lands with Jets, Harvin set for departure

The New York Jets made somewhat of a blockbuster trade Friday in acquiring wide receiver Brandon Marshall from the Chicago Bears.

Gang Green's move for the wideout comes half a year after they brought in Percy Harvin via a deal with the Seattle Seahawks. And the latter move pretty much ensures the former one is moot heading into 2015.

Writes the New York Post's Brian Costello:
Bye-bye, Percy – This is the second big trade for a receiver the Jets have made in the past six months. The difference between Marshall and Percy Harvin is their value. Harvin has tremendous talent, but never seems to have the production to go along with it.
Marshall had seven straight seasons of 1,000 yards receiving before dropping off last year. Plus, Marshall will cost the Jets $7.7 million in 2015 as compared to Harvin’s $10.5 million. Once this trade becomes official Tuesday, the Jets likely will cut Harvin.
Costello does a nice job summing up the why and why nots of the Jets' trade for Marshall. Read it here. And here is a good column from Newsday's Bob Glauber on the move.

RPT: Harvin unlikely to restructure deal with Jets

How much is Percy Harvin worth to the New York Jets? Not anything less than he was last year--at least that's apparently the attitude within the all-purpose player's camp.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported Monday that he'd be "shocked" if Harvin agreed to a reduced deal with Gang Green.

Harvin is due more than $10 million this coming season, and the Jets are likely to approach him about a pay cut. Should he decline, he may very well hit the market, though New York would prefer to keep their most explosive player.

La Canfora also reported the Patriots would have an eye on Harvin, and that C.J. Spiller's name has been regularly linked to the Jets amidst chatter at the combine. We're a bit skeptical about the former point given New England's surplus of talent and tendency to shy from unnecessary spending, though Spiller to the Jets is a strong possibility with Chan Gailey leading New York's offense.

Seahawks GM: 'Back to basics' led to Harvin trade

Consider it a change in philosophy.

Tuesday, Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider elaborated a bit on his team's decision to trade the explosive, all-purpose Percy Harvin to the New York Jets midway through the 2014 season.

According to Schneider, at least part of the move had to do with a shift in the team's offensive approach--alleged locker-room activity aside.

"Percy is a unique player, so you have to use him in a unique fashion," Schneider said, via the NY Daily News. "So, we kind of just got back to playing more basic: Run the ball and hammer it out, read-option. Getting back to a little bit more up field instead of horizontal."

Still no Harvin for Jets, but Amaro cleared to hit

BY EDITOR

The New York Jets' most explosive player had yet to test his ankle Wednesday since spraining it last Sunday in a loss to the Minnesota Vikings. A day later, it looks like he's still staying off it.

Thursday, wide receiver Percy Harvin caught balls from the jugs machine for a bit but ended up on the stationary bike rather than in position drills, according to Darryl Slater of NJ.com.

Meanwhile, it's iffy how much practice work Gang Green's best player (on either side of the ball), defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, will get toward the end of this week, as he's still nursing his turf toe ailment.

Back on offense, tight end Jace Amaro has been cleared for contact.

Harvin: 'Sky's the limit' for Jets offense going forward

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Better late than never?

The New York Jets' offense has been stagnant for much of 2014 and has improved slightly since a few weeks ago, when Michael Vick was named the starting quarterback and Percy Harvin joined the team via a trade.

Harvin, the team's most explosive player, thinks the offense is still ascending.

Hughes: Bills look to keep Harvin in front of them

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Percy Harvin will take the field Sunday for the first time since joining the New York Jets via a trade last week.

Gang Green fans aren't quite sure how exactly the former Seattle Seahawks wideout will be utilized against the Buffalo Bills, and neither are the Bills.

One thing is certain, however: the Bills' defense will be highly attentive when Harvin lines up.

Harvin excited to work with Geno, blessed to have Vick

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

Geno Smith looks like he'll continue to run the offense for the New York Jets, but it's Michael Vick that newly signed wide receiver Percy Harvin is excited to see.

Harvin, who was acquired for a conditional pick this past week, grew up in the same area of eastern Virginia as Vick. The two have reportedly been close for some time, and the new addition to Gang Green is looking forward to having his mentor close by.

"I’ve been in touch with him throughout my whole career," Harvin said via the team's website. "Whenever I needed advice or I just wanted to hang out, he’s a go-to guy. Being here with him, man, it’s a blessing."

Idzik: Jets 'excited' to add 'versatile, dynamic' Harvin

BY NICK ST. DENIS

New York Jets general manager John Idzik failed to give quarterback Geno Smith much help this offseason.

Now that his team is down and out at 1-6, getting an explosive playmaker on offense is all of a sudden a priority for the second-year personnel decision-maker.

Gang Green traded a conditional draft pick to the Seattle Seahawks this week for receiver and returner Percy Harvin. Harvin instantly upgrades a pass-catching corps that has handcuffed Smith all season long.
